Show HN: A self hosted alternative to Ngrok Hi! I am sharing this because it may be useful to others. I created a simple Docker image that lets you easily expose a web app running locally on your dev machine to the Internet, via a proxy server. It is a self hosted alternative to something like Ngrok, which is a paid service if you use custom domains. A small server is cheaper than Ngrok (I use Hetzner Cloud and the cheapest server costs me 3€ per month). I have recorded 26 phone screens from the past 3 or 4 months of trying to find a job as a full stack web developer. Some of the interviews are non-technical screens, some of them get technical. I have not gone through and beeped out any names or personal details. I maybe should have, but it was bad enough I had to live through these moments once, I didn't want to have to relive them by listening through them again to add in the beeps. Show HN: Distroverify – A tool to automatically verify hashes of any distro file Github Link: http://bit.ly/2Ies9AI Folks, I'm a distro hopper who mainly hops between ubuntu distros such as ubuntu, xubuntu, ubuntu-mate, etc. One thing I've found is the frequent need to verify the SHA1 hashes of the local and original version found on cdimage.ubuntu.com. Sometimes, you forget to verify the hash immediately and later, you have to again scavenge for that download URL in your browser history and then find the hash files URL, isn't it? For this, I've created a tool called distroverify that automatically pulls the corresponding sha1hash file (based on regex of the file-name) and verifies it for you. Right now, it supports only the buntus but I plan on adding support for debian and fedora too depending on the response. Show HN: SEC ICO No Action Request This has previously been submitted and flew under the radar, in light on the Kik/SEC story being #1 yesterday, we are resubmitting to shed light on the SEC No Action Letter process. Unlike every other ICO we are not promising profits or future value. We think of ourselves as a safe sandbox to take on the legal risk associated with challenging the SEC current application of Law to tokens. In short we believe the legal framework exists for business to create “Blockchain Stock” (tokens) which can be sold to the public to raise funds without registering with the SEC, and we are asking the SEC to rule on our legal opinion. However, unlike Kik we are seeking permission rather than having our ICO and then seeking forgiveness (or fighting in court). One of Kik’s main arguements for not seeking to work with the SEC before raising $100M selling their token is because the SEC has not treated ICOs fairly, and the SEC has delayed issuing No Action Letters for ICOs...
