Show HN: $13K Sales for “The Good Parts of AWS” on Launch Day Hi HN I'm an ex-AWS employee, now working for myself. Together with a friend of mine (who also recently left Amazon) we tried an experiment and put almost everything we know about AWS in one short digital book. We launched the book yesterday (xmas day) and it sold over $13K already: https://twitter.com/dvassallo/status/1210352939539161088 This is the first time I got paid for something I wrote, so I'm still very new to this. But I'm happy to share what I learned so far, so please feel free to ask me anything. And here's a discount link for the book if you'd like to check it out: https://ift.tt/39gGYyn December 27, 2019 at 05:54AM

Show HN: Planorio, a booking management system https://ift.tt/2tR8G4B

Show HN: Planorio, a booking management system Hello! For the last year I've been working on a side project, a booking management system. Among others, it allows anyone who owns a business that accepts bookings to manage them, to communicate with customers, to easily create a personalized website or to embed a calendar widget on any existing website. Link: https://ift.tt/2tQt9X9 There is still a long way to go, but I feel that now it is ready for some very direct feedback. :) It mainly consists of an Angular frontend, a backend written in Node.js and some small tools written in PHP and Kotlin. I also created a hybrid mobile application in Ionic. Thanks in advance to everyone who takes a look at it! December 25, 2019 at 03:14AM

Show HN: Be 10x more efficient prospecting leads https://ift.tt/2rn85Xn

Show HN: Be 10x more efficient prospecting leads Hi HN! We’re Esteban and Juan, co-founders of MegaBoost. Check us out at https://megaboost.io/ We have built MegaBoost because we identified that the most painful part of a B2B sales process is the very first step: Obtaining high-quality leads. When we had our previous startup, I was taking at least 8 hours to build a high-quality 100 contact email list. That’s why we decided to automate this. We’re now being used by YC companies. Our previous startup was in enterprise cybersecurity, and actually won a Pioneer tournament thanks to that. We are different from Hunter, Clearbit Connect, etc. because: 1. We give you all the data needed to send customized messages at scale, which is what increases your campaign’s response rate. Unlike our competition we don’t just give you their email, company, and name; we also give you the person’s position and even a customized ice breaker. 2. We only include verified emails on our campaigns, and can verif...

Show HN: Angeldust–a fast and efficient video game https://ift.tt/35NIq9l

Show HN: Angeldust–a fast and efficient video game After years of solo development I'm presenting: Angeldust, an omni-compatible action RPG and building game! Website: http://angeldu.st My single server hosts 250+K active players in one giant, dynamic fantasy world. Angeldust's game server is pervasively multithreaded, implementing John Carmack's dream of processing an immutable world state each tick. Both world handling and network traffic routing uses any number of threads. For networking, a typical game session only uses ~3Kbps of bandwidth, enabling decent play even over 2G/EDGE networks. The client is programmed in C++ with bits of C, Objective-C, Java and PHP. It runs really well on very low-end and obsolete hardware, all the way up to modern systems with fast GPUs. Angeldust works perfectly on Windows XP+, even without hardware OpenGL; Mac OS X 10.6+, even on the first 2006 32-bit Intel GMA945 MacBook1,1; Linux 64-bit glibc 2.17+; Android v2.2.3+, supporting Bluetoot...

Show HN: Booky – app to organize notes from books you read https://ift.tt/2PIXrnh

Show HN: Booky – app to organize notes from books you read Hi folks, I've launched "Booky" - app for organizing notes from books you read. App Store: https://ift.tt/2tDI5I0 With the app you can: 1. Snap picture of the book while you're reading it 2. Quickly highlight your favorite quotes 3. Sync your book shelf with Goodreads 4. Search in the notes you scanned Promo video: https://ift.tt/2Mft4lX Those features are similar to what you might find in ebooks apps but the app enables you to do that with physical books. I'm not sure how to build any business model around it so I'd love to hear your suggestions :) December 20, 2019 at 11:14PM

Show HN: Elasticsearch Learning to Rank Plugin https://ift.tt/2Z7adyT

Show HN: Elasticsearch Learning to Rank Plugin For those who don't know, Learning to Rank, is a means of using a machine learning model to optimize relevance of search results. The Elasticsearch Learning to Rank plugin creates the infrastructure for feature storage (aka templated Elastic queries), feature logging, and then uploading models trained offline for ranking with those features. This plugin is a few years old, but as one of the core maintainers, I'm eager to open the pool of contributors to this codebase used a lot by the Elastic community. I realize Elasticsearch plugins are a dark art. But if your team uses Elasticsearch for search, is considering or using Learning to Rank, we'd love to have you in the community of maintainers that includes Wikimedia, Yelp, and other big Elasticsearch deployments. Launch HN: Got-it (YC W19) – Bluetooth labels for tracking things at work https://ift.tt/36FVyNx

Launch HN: Got-it (YC W19) – Bluetooth labels for tracking things at work Hi Everyone, It’s Brian and David here and we want to share what we’ve built — ultra thin Bluetooth labels called Got-it ( https://got-it.com ). It’s like Tile, but for B2B or Enterprise. Got-it is for tracking things at work as a team. Simply peel and stick, no different from a barcode sticker. But, these are active Bluetooth labels. They're flexible and roughly the size of a little Avery barcode label (28mm x 76mm) and less than 0.5mm thick. They communicate with the phones already in employee pockets, even in background mode. That means no scanning like RFID, and no readers or gateway infrastructure to install in the ceiling or the doorways. A few photos here: ( https://ift.tt/2YS6iWu ) We started Got-it as a solution for all that really simple stuff that went missing at home. There were loads of little things, like iPhone charger cables or even Chapstick, that when forgotten or went missing, made life a l...

Show HN: GitChapter – Literate Programming, Git and Reproducibility https://ift.tt/34tdbPq

Show HN: GitChapter – Literate Programming, Git and Reproducibility https://ift.tt/38DyH7a Hello! This is a project I've written on the side for the past year or two. Thought it may be time to perhaps share the project! Essentially I got tired of writing programming blog posts, that were error prone and tedious to copy / past commands. I also got tired of trying to learn from programming posts written by others, and having to setup all the necessary files from scratch. GitChapter (as a user/reader) ultimately allows you to checkout a programming tutorial/blog post directly at a specific "chapter", and being able to hack right away from that point. An example of a "gitchapter" project / repo written is: https://ift.tt/38DWNyF December 15, 2019 at 04:49PM

Show HN: A Bookmarklet to Remove Clickgates on New York Times,Medium etc. Recently i stumbled on too many clickgates on the Medium blog Towards Data science. Considering that most people publish to share knowledge on Medium and are driven into putting their content behind a paywall, without actually getting paid for it, including myself. I felt like Medium is running the academic publishing scheme. Get free content and get paid for it. So I decided to create a small script to bypass the paywall on Medium, it turns out it also works on other newssites. Heres the website: https://ift.tt/2t7bmdV For the curious I will explain the technical aspects in a comment. December 11, 2019 at 01:59AM

Show HN: Valohai – MLOps and Record Keeping for ML https://ift.tt/2rwbfIa

Show HN: Valohai – MLOps and Record Keeping for ML Hi HN, we've been here before [1] but the product has changed quite. In the time of Kubeflow, MLFlow, and Metaflow: Valohai is a managed fullfledged platform for ML. Unlike the others, it doesn't require you to set up and maintain it yourself. And unlike the rest, it doesn't require your code to import a library that only works for python. We'd love to hear your feedback and thoughts! Valohai in a few bullet-points: 1) MLOps - Runs on your AWS, GCP, Azure, on-prem - Automatically starts and shuts down your servers once your code is done (no need to manually track and shut down e.g. EC2 instances) - Launch parallel hyperparameter sweeps (e.g. 100 TPUs at once doing 100 combinations of hyperparams) - Works with code on localhost, gitlab/github/bitbucket and jupyter notebooks (all is run in your cloud/serverfarm, as opposed to localhost) - Nifty features such as async jupyter execs (change code/data while previous code is ...

Show HN: Vehicle Microservice Framework (Python) – Dashcams and More https://ift.tt/3551Dmo

Show HN: Vehicle Microservice Framework (Python) – Dashcams and More https://ift.tt/2rdNvIZ Hey HN, This is my first microservices project. It's designed to be an extendable platform for collecting data about your car (and acting on it). It uses a "centralized pub/sub" message queue system I developed. This was designed for a Raspberry Pi, but has support for x86 (minus the RPi specific containers) I use Redis to manage the state of the car. The microservices currently communicate with TCP JSON payloads. In its current state, it can record dashcam footage and download it when you get home. Let me know what you think! Show HN: We released our developer conversion funnel featire https://ift.tt/2OJzCuM

Show HN: We released our developer conversion funnel featire Hey HN, I'm Derric, CEO of https://www.moesif.com. Over the Thanksgiving weekend, we released our Conversion Funnel feature (https://ift.tt/2LkaVD6) for API platforms. Conversion funnels are an easy way to measure developer adoption metrics like Time to First Hello World (TTFHW) and Time to First Working App (TTFWA). We built Moesif to help API-first companies understand how customers use their APIs to plan a better product strategy that drives actual growth. If you have any questions or any feature ideas especially if you're an API first company, please share! December 4, 2019 at 01:15AM

Launch HN: Buy Me a Coffee (YC W19) – Give your audience a way to thank you https://ift.tt/2DDCPWC

Launch HN: Buy Me a Coffee (YC W19) – Give your audience a way to thank you Hi HN! We’re Joseph, Aleesha, and Jijo, the founders of Buy Me A Coffee ( https://ift.tt/2E9KvOn ). We make it super easy to accept contributions and recurring memberships from your audience. A bit of backstory - Joseph and I grew up in India. When I was 12, I started making a little bit of money from my blog, and it had a huge impact on my life. I got to buy books and gadgets, pay for web hosting, none of which I could’ve afforded otherwise. We built our first product in 2010. It was an ad network for bloggers called AdIndigo. There were a bunch of Adsense alternatives doing well at that time, and it grew to serve 6 million impressions at its peak. We later had to shut it down because of the expenses. Buy Me A Coffee is our third (and only successful) attempt at building for the creators. When we started working on Buy Me A Coffee as a side project, it was a quick way to spin up a page or a button to accept on...

Launch HN: Referlist – Increase email sign-ups via word of mouth referrals https://ift.tt/2ReXdFy

Launch HN: Referlist – Increase email sign-ups via word of mouth referrals Hi there HN! Excited to share Referlist (https://referlist.co/), a simple way to increase sign-ups on your landing page for pre-product launches. Give your users early access to your product when they share it with their friends! I make A LOT of landing pages. Whenever I want to test an idea, I'll make a website with a sign-up form to see how excited people are about a concept. I wanted to encourage word of mouth growth and incentivize my users to share these sites with their friends. Robinhood was able to amass nearly one million sign-ups via their referral program, so I tried googling for an easy way to add something similar to my page. Everything I found was expensive, too complicated and came pre-packaged with a landing page which I didn't want. I ended up building a custom solution for myself and it worked great! I noticed other friends launching projects doing the same, so we built Referlist to sav...

Launch HN: Vouch (YC S19) – Business Insurance for Startups https://ift.tt/2RiXwyS

Launch HN: Vouch (YC S19) – Business Insurance for Startups We’re Travis and Sam, co-founders of Vouch Insurance ( https://vouch.us ). Vouch is a new insurance company that provides business insurance for startups. We make it easy for founders to get all of the business insurance they need as they build their companies -- ranging from basic coverage for business property through to more complex coverages such as Directors and Officers (D&O), Errors and Omissions (E&O), Cyber, Employment Practices Liability and a range of others that companies need to close financings, scale their teams, do deals and take on office leases. Moreover, these policies protect against painful but all too frequent risks that we all face as we build our businesses. We started Vouch after seeing how painful it is to get insurance the old way, and also experiencing many of the risk events that all-too-often happen as one scales a company. Previously I co-founded and led the U.S. arm of Funding Circle, a ...
